Ijolite, Magnet Cove, Arkansas.

This is a thin section of Ijolite from the Magnet Cove alkaline intrusion. A very complex intrusion, with rare minerals. These include in this slide altered nepheline, melanite, apatite, carbonate, perovskite and green/brown mica. Rather than attempt to describe the localitiy and its rock I suggest you follow the link below to a .pdf by the Arkansas Geological Survey. Just to note that that you may find eudyalite in this slide. The sample came from the Cove Creek exposure.
