Perlite, Landmannalauger, Iceland.

This is a thin section microscope slide of a rock collected by me in Iceland many years ago. It primarily green volcanic glass with well developed circular cracking known as perlite. This is a classic example. The only other mineral is laths of feldspar, probably sanidine. Landmannalauger is world famous for it's coloured mountains, and this is an example of the green ones.

Badly consolidated material which has required repeated impregnation with resin. I have very little of this material.
