Sandstone, Millstone Grit. Yorkshire, England

This is a thin section miscoscope slide of Millstone grit, an important rock forming much of the Pennines, and used widely for building as well as millstones. This is an example from Brimham in Yorkshire. Cut very slightly thicker than standard as these rocks tend not to be very well consolidated, which together with their angular clasts made them such an ideal material for millstones.
